Instagram engagement rate calculator
Enter followers and average likes and comments, or load them from any public username, and get the engagement rate with the working shown.
How to fill it in
- Followers: the number on the profile. Shorthand like 2.4k works.
- Average likes: total the likes across your nine most recent posts, then divide by nine. Skip any post that went unusually far, such as a giveaway.
- Average comments: across those same nine posts; skip your own replies where possible.
- Saves and shares: only visible in your own Insights. For anyone else’s profile, skip this box.
Or type a public username into the box above the form and we will load the follower count and recent averages for you.
The formula
Rate = (mean interactions per post ÷ follower count) × 100. An account with 2,400 followers averaging 88 likes and 6 comments has (94 ÷ 2,400) × 100 = 3.92%. In other words, roughly four out of each hundred followers interact with an average post.
Some tools divide by reach instead of followers. That gives a higher number and can only be done for your own account. Neither method is wrong; just compare like with like.
Before and after a follower order
Bought followers add to the bottom of the sum and nothing to the top, so your rate goes down. Using the example above, adding 1,000 followers changes it from 3.92% to (94 ÷ 3,400) × 100 = 2.76%. That is still in the typical range, but it is worth knowing before you order. A likes package moves the top of the sum for one post only.
What to do with the number
- Calculate it monthly from the same number of posts and watch the trend.
- Calculate it per format (Reels, carousels, single photos) and make more of the best one.
- When judging another account, look at its rate before its follower count. Our guide to spotting fake followers explains why.
